I finally had a student show up and go drawing with me at lunch. I'm still hoping that more people will join me for these outings. Anyway, these are a few sketches from today. The first is a compilation of two pages. The second is just a page as it was from my sketchbook. Anyway, nothing polished, but here are some sketches.

Once again, I have fallen behind on posting. So, here are some more photographs. Sorry once again for the watermarks. Anyway, I have been busy with trying to get a lot of non-art related projects completed (I will post about them when they are done). In addition to that, I am still preparing a lot of content for my classes. So, I have been creating a lot of art, but it is all for demonstration purposes. Nothing finished to show. I will try to get back to work on some art for myself soon.

Hello. In addition to everything else that I do, I also have done photography for a long time. I am weird that way. I will be looking out a window and see something that will make me run for the camera and outside. I have hundreds of pictures of sunsets. Along with pretty much everything else. I don't do photography as a living, but I realized that I never show any of my photos. So, for kicks, I decided to finally post a few. They are just some from the latest batch of downloads from the camera. Sorry about the watermarks, but they are kind of necessary in this day and age. I am probably going to start putting them on everything I post from now on. Hope you enjoy the pictures anyway. I have thousands of pictures on my external hard drive that I need to go through at some point. I take somewhere around 300 to 400 a month. Thank goodness for digital. Speaking of which. I don't own an SLR. I keep wanting to get one, but these are all taken with a cheap point and click. Unfortunately, it is all I could ever afford. However, I feel like I have been able to do alright despite the hardware setback. I have figured out how to change the settings and actually adjust the depth of field and lighting despite the fact that the camera tries to lock me out of those options. So, I can almost get it to look like an SLR. Works alright until the day I finally save up for something better. Anyway, that's enough typing. Enjoy.

It's been way too long again. I have been sketching around campus though, and figured that I should grab a few drawings from my sketchbook to put up. I just scanned and compiled them in photoshop. Not much, but at least I'm finally getting around to posting something new. Enjoy.

Here's the final pass. Yet again, prismacolor on vellum. I was going to post it with a canvas texture and some tone to it, but decided to post it in it's original state so that it wouldn't hide the flaws. I realize there are many. But, as I am not a concept artist, oh well. Don't worry though, I will eventually improve.

Wasn't great, but I figured I would post it anyway. Here is the muscle pass on the creature I posted about last week. If it turns out tolerable, I will post the final drawing. If not, it will mysteriously disappear, and I will post other things. Once again, black prismacolor on vellum.

Alright, now onto the model. From the concept, I built the base mesh in Maya and unwrapped the UV's. I then did the texturing and detailing in ZBrush. I included an image of the texture and normal map that I exported out after the ZBrush process, but haven't felt a need to apply it to the maya model for any particular purpose yet. If you look back at the snail model I worked on, you can see how it could be applied back and then put into a game engine. I was just showing it for fun. Anyway, enjoy. I will try to post more, but we will see. I am still sporadic at this. However, I hope that at least someone will find this creature model interesting.
Hello all. Told you I would post some modeling work. This is another creature I was working on. First off, I don't even pretend to be a concept artist. There are many that are much better and more skilled at it. However, I wanted to include the whole process. So, it starts as sketches, moves on to a few renditions(I know the facial muscles were screwed up, but I fixed them in the modeling process), finally I got a colored concept after going through a few ideas. Here is what I came up with.

Just thought I would post this to have something to post. It's just a creature I made for a class assignment. I will also be doing a musculature study of this, as well as a finished drawing. If they turn out decent, I will post them. If not, they will disappear, never to be seen again. This one was done with black prismacolor on vellum. I then took a photo of it and pulled it into photoshop. In photoshop, I just gave it a canvas texture, and added a brown overlay to make it look more interesting. Enjoy.

Finally getting close to the end of another semester in my MFA program. One of my classes was anatomy again. So, I have tons and tons of anatomy studies, figure drawings, master studies, and the like. Just for fun I thought I would post a few. Because Marcelo had spiced up one of his figure drawings by putting a parchment texture in the background, I figured I would do the same thing. It's nice. However, it still doesn't cover my poor drawing skills. I'll just have to work harder. But, I have a few 3D models that I may post as process pieces in the next couple of weeks. Also, I am going to try to post some more sketches. We'll see if I can keep up on my blog this time.

I realize that no one is following my blog anymore, but I thought that I might start posting again. I have been so busy that it has honestly not been a priority. I am now an instructor at a university. As something to help my students, I am requiring them to keep sketchbooks. So, I started to get more serious about mine. It has never been a strong point for me. My technical abilities, and being able to create clean geometry for games has been my saving grace. As far as concept art and drawing skills... not so much. However, I thought I would start posting again anyway. If anyone sees this, then I hope you will at least enjoy it a little. If no one does, then this is just for my benefit. And for right now, that is good enough. I am still progressing in my art, even if it isn't as noticeable as I would like. I took a scan of one of my sketch pages and pulled this part out. I added a quick color pass. I may post a few full sketch pages. They aren't anything special, but at least I am still trying. I will probably post some of my 3D work in the next few weeks if I remember.
